How we test an AI agent before it talks to a real customer

Jack Lassner, Co-Founder & CTO · October 16, 2026 · 4 min read

We test every AI agent on 300 to 500+ scenarios before it speaks to a real lead or customer, and we keep monitoring it after launch. An agent that represents your business on the phone deserves the same standard as a new hire, and more checking, because it will have far more conversations.

What do the test scenarios cover?

  • Pricing questions, including the ones your team prefers to handle on a call.
  • Callback requests and people who want a human.
  • Booking conflicts, rescheduling and time zones.
  • Unclear or partial answers that need a follow-up question rather than a guess.
  • Opt-outs, which the agent must honor immediately.

What is the agent built on before testing starts?

Three things: your company information (services, locations, prices and sales process), the voice and conversation you want (tone and the qualifying questions you already ask), and the connections it needs (lead sources, CRM and calendars). Testing then checks the agent against your standard, not a generic one.

What happens after launch?

A team stays on your account: monitoring calls, flagging and fixing issues, and running weekly reviews, iterations and A/B tests. When new technology improves what the agent can do, it gets added. You have access to the people building it at any time.

This is the process behind our Speed to Lead AI agent and every custom agent we ship.
